What Is a Vertical Separator 36″ x 10′?

A vertical separator is a pressure vessel used to separate fluid mixtures—typically gas, oil, and water—into individual components. It operates on gravity-based separation, with internal components that direct flow and facilitate efficient phase separation.

How It Works

1. Inlet Flow:
   Fluids enter through a side nozzle near the top or middle of the vessel.

2. Primary Separation:
   The flow hits an internal diverter, forcing a rapid change in direction that drops out heavier liquid droplets.

   • Gas rises to the top

   • Liquids fall to the bottom

3. Gravity Separation:
   As the liquids settle, oil and water separate due to density differences, often aided by weirs or baffles.

4. Mist Elimination:
   Gas passes through mist eliminators (such as vane packs or mesh pads) to remove remaining liquid droplets before exiting the top outlet.

5. Liquid Discharge:
   Oil and water exit separately through designated drain ports, typically controlled by level instrumentation.
